There’s something satisfying about creating a practical project from materials that might otherwise have gone to waste. Recently, I built a small firewood storage rack using recycled and reclaimed materials to hold the extra firewood that wouldn’t fit in my usual wood storage area.
The project started with a small pallet I picked up from the roadside. Not far away, I also found some timber bearers and an off cut of corrugated Colourbond roofing material. With a few extra off cuts I already had at home, I realised I had everything needed to put together a compact and functional firewood shelter.
The pallet made a perfect raised base, helping to keep the firewood off the ground and allowing airflow underneath. The reclaimed timber bearers provided a sturdy frame, while the corrugated roofing offered simple weather protection to help keep the wood dry during winter.
One of the best parts of this project was that it cost almost nothing to build. It also gave new life to materials that may otherwise have ended up as rubbish. The finished storage rack is small, practical, and fits neatly beside my existing wood storage area.
Projects like this are a great reminder that useful and attractive solutions don’t always require brand-new materials. Sometimes, a bit of creativity and a few reclaimed pieces are all you need to make something worthwhile.
